MAPUSA: The waste collection agency which has been engaged by the Mapusa Municipal Council has warned the Council that it would stop its services from ward 1 to 10 if the contract is not extended from October 1.
The contract of the agency expired on August 26, 2022 while it has continued to undertake door-to-door garbage collection

A notice has been served by the Bavish Waste management Services Private Limited who is undertaking the task since August 27, 2021 to the MMC which states that it has continued its service of garbage collection on moral grounds although the contract has expired in the month of August.
“With effect from October 1, we will be forced to stop the waste collection task if we do not receive confirmation from the municipality stating our scope of work and the period of extension of service,” said the contractor.
It may be recalled that during the last meeting, the council had decided to give a month’s extension to the contractor from September 13 to October 12 and it was also decided to pay the contractor from the municipal funds for the period which the garbage collection was undertaken prior to the extension that was decided upon.
When contacted chief officer Amitesh Shirvoikar informed that “the council wouldl undertake garbage collection from wards 1 to 10 by deploying the municipal workers”.
