VASCO: Sancoale panchas on Monday filed a complaint with the Verna Police after they found a truck dumping garbage in the panchayat jurisdiction.
The Block Development Officer Mormugao Prasidh Naik said he directed Sancoale panchayat secretary to verify the details of the vehicle owner and impose fines amounting to Rs 25,000 as per rules.
The officer informed that he instructed Secretary to file a police complaint with the Verna Police.
“I have also shared this information with the officials of Goa State Pollution Control Board to impose penalties as per Environment Protection Act 1986” Naik added.
When asked what steps have been taken against such violations, the BDO said, “I have given clear instructions to secretary to initiate action as per law. Teams will be formed to track such littering of waste activities and a fine will be imposed on the violators”.
Narayan Naik, panch said he was shocked over the incident by a local and the initiative to question such dumping of waste was taken by Deputy sarpanch Kavita Kamal on Monday. The person, who dumped the waste was supposed to burn it, to this Kamal opposed by saying that as per rules waste cannot be burnt.
“The panchayat has complained to the Verna Police to initiate action and the BDO has informed the concerned authorities on the dumping of waste as per my knowledge,” Naik said.
Verna PI Harish Madkaikar informed that he has received a complaint about a truck dumping garbage in Sancoale.
“We immediately called the truck owner and asked him to take away his dumped garbage which he did and left the site,” Madkaikar added.
