PONDA: Ponda Police has arrested a 37-year-old school gardener on charges of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old nursery student outside the school on Tuesday morning.
According to Ponda Police, the gardener, Vinod Mascarenhas, and another person were detained on suspicion on Tuesday night, following a police complaint lodged by the child’s parents.
Mascarenhas was arrested after he was identified by the victim at the police station, Ponda PI CL Patil said.
PI Patil said the incident was reported on Tuesday between 10 am and 11 am when the minor girl was playing in the garden. The girl claimed that accused had taken her near the toilet and had sexually assaulted her.
“The medical report has confirmed sexual assault and we have arrested the accused in this connection,” PI Patil added.
In a related development, the school management has convened a meeting of the PTA on Friday morning to discuss the issue.
