VASCO: The Goa Barge Owners Association (GBOA) on Thursday clarified that its president Atul Jadhav and other members met Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday, and the CM requested them to start barge operations immediately with the assurance that he would look into and solve their difficulties regarding loans and other issues.
“After the meeting, the GBOA conducted a general body meeting on the same day, and the entire body reposed its faith in Parsekar and his government. We have acceded to the appeal made by the government to start barge operations. In the past, the GBOA had started a rotation system to share the cargo equitably owing to the small quantities of e-auction cargo available. Similarly, we have already restarted the rotation system and have sent barges for transportation of iron ore,” said GBOA president Atul Jadhav.
He further revealed that general secretary William D’Costa had resigned from the post citing personal reasons and not for reasons connected with operations/non-operations of the barges or any other issues concerning the GBOA.
