The inquiry committee comprising chartered account Lad and BITS Pillani CMO Ragevendra K M as members have sought assistance from the Goa police following resistance from GCA staffers. The committee, has also written to the Income Tax Commissioner for detailed financial statement of GCA from 2001 till date.
Speaking to media persons, Lad said of the 15 GCA members, who were issued notices to be present before the committee, only eight appeared. “The president and secretary did not appear,” he said, adding that the ‘GCA staffers informed us that the secretary has threatened them not to cooperate with us’. Lad said fresh notices would be sent to the President, Secretary and other staffers, asking them to reply.
Lad said that following resistance from GCA members, police assistance has been sought and they would act as and when required with the help of police. He said that the committee is verifying all the illegalities and irregularities within the GCA including financial transactions. During the investigation it was noticed that for the financial year 2009-10, cash transaction of Rs 55 lakh was reported, he said adding as per law; one cannot withdraw more than Rs 20,000 at a time.
Also, there is a recent complaint from GCA delegation headed by vice president Dr Shekhar Salkar, pointing out that Rs 4.40 crore has been spent on high mast lights for GCA Porvorim ground. The equipment was purchased from Dev Musco Lighting Pvt Ltd, while the address of the company is shown as GCA official address. The company is owned by former Indian captain Kapil Dev.
