GCCI chief for new industrial estates

Says economy not in very good condition

PANJIM: Land should be allocated for businesses and new industrial estates should be established in the State. This sentiment was expressed by Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Narayan Bandekar during the chamber’s 107th AGM on Saturday.
Bandekar said the economy in the State was not in very good condition and industry should be encouraged. The State he felt ought to encourage the IT sector very aggressively and he hoped the suggestions given by the body would be incorporated by the government. He hoped the plug and play concept would be encouraged by the government because it was vital in the IT industry. 
Bandekar felt it was important to change the labour laws in the State so as to encourage business. He also felt it was important to have a convention centre. 
Industries minister Mahadev Naik said it was a dream for him to ensure that jobs would be created in large numbers thus ensuring that Goans would be able to work in the State. The minister said he wanted 7 percent of the land in the State to be allocated for industry. The government he said had allocated land for small industries after placing an advertisement in the paper. Land he said was available near forests which could be used for new industries interested in setting up base in Goa.
Also at the AGM, Michael Sullivan of Ashcroft, Sullivan and Jha presented the benefits of the EB5 employment scheme which was very popular in the USA and was a way to attract smart intelligent men and women to come and settle in the US.
