CALANGUTE: One year after the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) had lodged a complaint with the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) on December 20, 2021, stating that some unknown persons were carrying out clearing of beachside vegetation in violation of CRZ rules and the Environment Protection Act at Survey No 149, Tivaiwaddo, Calangute, the GCZMA on Friday conducted a site inspection to verify the facts.
The CCF members who were present during the site inspection on Friday questioned the delay. “What is the motive behind conducting a site inspection after one year? What evidence will they get after one year? Whatever the people involved wanted to do has been done in this time,” CCF president Premanand Divkar said, pointing out that the beachside vegetation has been cleared and the sand dunes levelled for a parking area.
It is also the responsibility of the village panchayat and the ward member to ensure that the CRZ rules are not violated, but they are least concerned, he said
