notwithstanding the fact that the State unit of the Congress has been repeatedly playing down the formation of grand alliance for the upcoming 2017 election.
“Our senior leaders are in talks with Congress high command for formation of alliance for the coming polls,” Goa Forward spokesperson Durgadas Kamat told media persons.
Kamat said that the party is holding talks at the highest level on contesting the election in alliance with the Congress. “For now, Goa Forward will contest from 20 seats and the balance will be shared by the alliance partner,” he said.
In November, party will announce its 20 candidates, he stated.
The Goa Forward statement on alliance comes days after Congress party once again announced to go all alone for the polls. Though the State unit led by President Luizinho Faleiro is of the firm view that party should contest all 40 seats, AICC General Secretary and Goa desk in-charge Digvijay Singh has said that party is open for alliance with like-minded outfits that want to get rid of BJP government.
Moreover, the Congress legislative wing members including MLA Vishwajit Rane, Alexio Lourenco Reginaldo are of the view that the party should contest election in alliance.
When asked whether it considers forming alliance with Shiv Sena, Kamat said that the party has no standing in Goa. “We are two parties with different ideologies. Further, Shiv Sena has no standing in the State. But let the senior leaders take a call on it,” he stated.
Kamat said that in the coming weeks more people are likely to join the party. On Saturday, several BJP workers from Fatorda joined Goa Forward.
