PANJIM: The Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) on Monday wrote to the Chief Secretary requesting to follow the duty schedule of Secretariat staff, pointing out that it is not proper to make them work for 24 hours and more continuously.
“At the onset of every monsoon, the government sets up control rooms at all talukas to monitor loss of life and property. Such monitoring is done on round-the-clock basis in shift system,” GGEA President John Nazareth said.
“The staffs from the Secretariat who are deployed for night duty are given instructions not to attend their regular duties but directly attend the night shift duty in the control rooms,” Nazareth said.
He, however, pointed out that the staff from outside Secretariat deployed for such night duty in the control rooms are made to attend their regular duties and then proceed to the control room, owing to which they are made to work continuously for 24 hours without rest and also if they apply for compensatory off on the following day, it is not easily granted.
