PANJIM: After Mangor Hill in Vasco, Ghodemal in Sattari taluka is set to be declared the second containment zone in the State for COVID-19. The surrounding Kasarwada and Deulwada will be declared buffer zones.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said that after a thorough discussion with the Health Secretary, they have instructed the Collector to declare Ghodemal in Morlem panchayat as a containment zone along with Kasarwada and Deulwada as buffer zones as COVID-19 cases in the locality have increased to over 14.
A health worker, attached to Vasco Public Health Center, and his family members were first to test positive in Ghodemal, last week. All 14 cases are linked to Mangor Hill.
Rane said that all necessary precautions will be taken to ensure daily supplies aren’t disrupted and that all health protocols are being followed, so that cases in the area are brought under control. “With the support of the deputy collector, we shall be conducting maximum number of tests and closely monitoring the situation,” the Minister said.
On Thursday, Rane had visited Malpan, Morlem, Guleli and Usgao, following a rise in the number of cases in these areas.
Last week, Mangor Hill had been declared a containment zone after a fisherman’s family from the area had tested positive on June 1. The area has reported 217 cases till June 11.
