GHRC issues notices to police

PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) on Friday issued notices to Goa Police in connection with a petition alleging harassment to family of history-sheeter Zenito Cardozo.

The notices seek reply from North Superintendent of Police Utkrisht Prasoon, Old Goa Police Inspector Krishna Sinari and Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo. A complaint filed by Cardozo’s kin alleges that the police have resorted to physical and mental harassment.

Cardozo, who has been made a prime conspirator in the St Cruz shootout and murder, has been on the run whilst the police teams continue their futile manhunt to trace his whereabouts.

In his anticipatory bail plea reserved for order for July 28, Cardozo has accused the police of falsely implicating him in the case. During the final arguments, the defense submitted that ‘prosecution deliberately, mischievously and with a malafide intent suppressed the genesis of the events.’

The police after initial denial made him a prime conspirator in the attack that occurred on June 20. Several people have since been quizzed and places raided in search of the alleged accused.
