PANJIM: Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) will inspect the working and living conditions of policemen at two police stations in the State.
GHRC, hearing a complaint filed by advocate Aires Rodrigues, directed the Secretary of the Commission to inspect and verify the factual working and living conditions of policemen at Old Goa Police Station in North Goa and Colva Police Station in South Goa.
The Secretary has been directed to carry out the inspection within 15 days and submit a report to the Commission within 30 days.
As per the complaint, policemen in the State are being made to work long hours amidst pathetic working conditions.
Disputing the stand taken by the DGP that all amenities, including canteen and recreational facilities, were available at every police station, Rodrigues told the Commission that the reply filed by the DGP does not depict the real and factual position at the stations.
regarding the working and living conditions of police personnel and sought that at least two police stations be inspected to verify the factual position.
Rodrigues, in his complaint to GHRC, alleged that most policemen get a break only after many days of work and stated that this has been taking a toll on their personal lives.
