PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar on Wednesday demanded a white paper on the Zuari bridge from PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar.
“My comments on Zuari bridge were out of my genuine concern to draw the attention of the insensitive government as lakhs of commuters use it on a daily basis,” he said on Wednesday.
He added that Congress appreciates the immediate inspection of the bridge by the high-level team but regrets that the government is withholding key information on the issue that has been raised.
“The serious genuine concerns, however, have not been addressed by the PWD Minister in the manner that he should have done. If he was serious and truly concerned about the people, he should and must disclose all inspection reports of all technical authorities and any other reports carried out to check the safety of the Zuari bridge,” Chodankar said.
The Congress president said that Dhavalikar must also make public all the communication between the State PWD, CPWD and NHAI authorities as regards the bridge.
“The fact of the matter is that, instead the PWD minister has spoken in a very irresponsible manner which has no bearing on the important issue raised and thus jeopardising the lives of people by making them use the unsafe bridge without any concern for their lives,” he added.
He also asked that the PWD Minister state who will be held responsible in case there is a fatality?
