MARGAO: In what was otherwise a relatively smooth voting process in most parts of Salcete, voters had to endure long delays due to issues related to the EVM machines, in certain areas.
While officials from the district election office asserted that these issues were minor in nature and that once the fault was rectified, the voting process continued, there were instances like the one in Margao’s Old Market area (booth number 37) where voters had to wait for nearly two hours due to issues with the EVM.
Besides these issues there were some complaints raised by voters with how the voting process was handled in their respective booths. In Arlem, for example, in booth number 6, citizens found fault with the noting of numbers by a staff member in the polling booth and conveyed this to the presiding officer who intervened.
In Cuncolim, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao complained about how a BJP polling agent in booth no 42 was displaying the name of the BJP South Goa candidate Pallavi Dempo.
