PANJIM: The foundation stone ceremony for the 110-bedded cancer tertiary block of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) would be held on March 1, at Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolim.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane informed that the new building built by HSCC at a cost of Rs 120 crore will be a state of the art facility which will be the only one in the coastal region of Goa, Konkan and Karwar.
He said that a team will be set up headed by Dr Anupama Borkar for planning and coordination. With a vast experience that Dr Anupama carries, he further said that she will be a great asset to GMC. Rane said that the Department is building a team with the objective to deal with all types of cancer patients and provide quality cancer care to the citizens who would have to go outside the state for treatment. He said Dr Anupama will monitor the construction work of the regional cancer centre which will be located next to the new super speciality block, being built by HSCC.
