PANJIM: In an interesting development, the dean of Goa Medical College has washed his hands off the GMC-GU result bribery allegations.
The Goa University had convened a meeting of the Board of Evaluation, which looks into examinations and results, today to discuss the matter.
The Board of Evaluation consists of deans of all Professionals colleges, HoDs of all departments in GU besides the officials of the Goa University.
According to sources, who attended the meeting said the GMC dean Dr Naik stated he had no knowledge of the issue.
“The dean stated he had no knowledge of letter for rectification of marks of the student by the HoD,” sources said.
GU officiating registrar M Sreedhara was unavailable for comments on the outcome of the meeting.
Sources said the board wanted further probe as the allegations were of serious nature. When contacted for his comments, Dr Naik said “yes the meeting was held and the matter was placed before the Board of Evaluation.”
However, he said, “I cannot comment any further as it is a university matter.”
Herald had reported that result of only one MD student in Skin Department was on hold for a month-and-half while rest were declared.
According to students, a senior doctor in the Skin department was demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to declare the result.
The student is seven-month pregnant and is “being tortured” by this senior doctor. She has been told to pay or would be failed, sources alleged.
The HoD has refuted allegations saying the delay was due to technical error and nothing else.
