GMFSS said Goans are aware that Special Status for Goa was a promise made by the BJP in its 2014 Lok Sabha election manifesto and if the demand cannot be fulfilled the BJP Executive had to make a study of the demand and not include it in the manifesto to fool the people into voting for the BJP.
GMFSS President Prajal Sakhardande in a press communiqué issued here alleged that the very same Mauvin Godinho who never missed an opportunity to speak on the urgent need for Special Status for Goa, in his speech, in the Legislative Assembly on August 21 made a U-turn on the issue and today advocated that Comunidade land, which is basically meant for the sons of the soil of this state, should be given to non-Goans. “Everyone knows how migrants have squatted on Comunidade land illegally, while the poor of Goa who are law abiding citizens are left in the lurch. Mauvin’s agenda is to ensure his future as an MLA for the next 20 years,” he chided.
Sakhardande, however, has put his faith on the resolution passed in Goa Legislative Assembly on April 15, 2013, demanding Special Status for Goa under Article 371 of the Constitution of India, where both the Ruling and the Opposition members unanimously passed the resolution and the Chief Minister assured the people of Goa that their demand will be fulfilled.
“This is a genuine demand of the people of Goa and the BJP government of the day, both at the national and state level will fulfil it because Goa is too small and can no longer afford to have the teeming millions of Indians settling in Goa,” Sakhardande argued. “Goans are left jobless and homeless being unable to afford the ever rising land and housing prices due to the moneyed class of the country and the world flocking into Goa for second and third holiday homes and commercial projects,” he said.
