PANJIM: Goa will be the first state in the country to opt for electronic transmission of the postal ballot to the service voters during the upcoming State Legislative Assembly election. The coastal State is also the first one to cover all 40 constituencies with VVPAT.
State has total 822 service voters including the defence personnel and 11.10lakh voters. The polling stations-1649 would be fully web cast needing 2500 VVAPT machines.
“Goa will be the first state to make use of electronic transmission of postal ballot to its service voters,” Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said.
He explained that the Returning officers will transfer the postal ballots to these service voters by electronic means so that the service voters can download it, fill it and send it to returning officer by e-mail.
He said sending ballot papers by electronic means will cut down the time in transmission of postal ballot to the service voters.
“We hope that large number of our service voters will be able to utilize this facility. This would be the first in region and around the globe. That is a matter of great pride for all of us,” he said.
Goa will be going for polls on February 4 along with Punjab.
Total five states are going for election in phase manner between February- March. The counting will take place on March 11.
