MARGAO, FEB 2
The Margao Municipal Council on Monday dumped around 145 truck-load of mud at the Sonsodo, even as the civic body has capped around 75-85 per cent of the site today.
The civic body has managed to contain the fire and smoke at the site and the balance portion would be capped by Tuesday evening.
The Goa Foundation has also returned back at the site more than a week after the site was devastated by fire and smoke. Workers engaged by the agency were on Monday involved in composting waste at the site, with Goa Foundation Director, Dr Claude Alvares expressing confidence that the fire and smoke at the site would be put off by Tuesday evening.
He expressed satisfaction over the work carried out by the civic body in the last two days, adding that the few more truck load of mud would help cap the site.
The civic officials constantly monitored the situation at Sonsodo in the last two days after the District Disaster Management Authority pulled up the Chief Officer for the sloppy pace of work at the site.
It is learnt that the Chief Officer Y B Tawde on Monday issued a memo to a subordinate officer for his absence at the Sonsodo dump yard on Sunday. In fact, Sunday saw the whole lot of officials from the municipal technical section present at the dumping site to monitor the progress of capping work at the site.
