Goa has become infamous for eco destruction

PANJIM: While attracting and accommodating huge tourists in this coastal state, Goa is in top three states in destruction of environment in the country following Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

PANJIM: While attracting and accommodating huge tourists in this coastal state, Goa is in top three states in destruction of environment in the country following Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. During the year 2015 there were six cases reported for violation of Environmental (Protection) Act as per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Goa is also on sixth place to book cases under Foreigners Act in the country, as per NCRB.     
The construction of more than 2,500 hotels has also destroyed the khazans, wetlands and the no development zone of the CRZ. Goa has been witnessing number of cases of violations of the environmental protection act since last more than a decade. 
Besides booking the cases under IPC, dozens of cases are presently pending before the courts including National Green Tribunal for rampant violation of environmental protection act and also with the deputy collector and collectors. In recent the complaints of environmental destruction have also reached to Prime Minister’s Office New Delhi. 
Environment Protection Act, 1986 is an Act of the Parliament of India. In the wake of the Bhopal Tragedy, the Government of India enacted the Environment Protection Act of 1986 under Article 253 of the Constitution. Passed in March 1986, it came into force on 19 November 1986. The purpose of the Act is to implement the decisions of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environments they relate to the protection and improvement of the human environment and the prevention of hazards to human beings, other living creatures, plants and property.
