OLD GOA: Admitting that two seats from Goa won’t make much difference when it comes to government formation at the Centre, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, however, said it would make a major difference if BJP were to win both seats as it would be easier for the State to demand special packages and a special status.
Speaking at a booth-level workers meet at Santa Cruz on Saturday, Parrikar further said that despite severe financial crunch, the State government has been able to raise finance for major developmental projects like the bridge linking Porvorim to Merces.
“However, the State still needs finance for projects like the Zuari Bridge and other developmental projects,” said Parrikar, adding that this money can only come from the Centre.
“If BJP wins both seats, it will be easy for the State government to get finance from the Centre through the efforts of both the MPs,” he added.
“The BJP has set a target of 2.40-2.50 lakh votes in the North and 2.20-2.30 lakh votes in the South,” said Parrikar. “But setting targets is easy, achieving them is difficult and hence, each and every booth worker should work tirelessly so that the set targets are achieved.”
Speaking on the occasion, BJP’s North Goa candidate Shripad Naik thanked the voters for sending him as a MP from North Goa for three times in a row and expressed confidence that they will make it a fourth time by getting him elected in this elections as well.
“The Congress has looted the country in its 10 years of rule at the Centre and it is the duty of each and every citizen to throw out the Congress,” said Naik, while stating that only the BJP can give a clean and corruption-free government to the people of India.
Naik added that the State government had already proved the same through its several schemes which are meant to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
Art and Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar said that BJP is a party which fulfils its promises made in the manifesto.
“The State government under Parrikar has already fulfilled 85% of its promises in its two year reign,” said Mandrekar and urged the voters to bring BJP into power at the Centre so that their aspirations are met.
St Cruz BJP block members, workers, leaders, panchas and others were present on the occasion.
