PANJIM: The Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) in a notice issued to the Managing Director of the Goa Meat Complex (GMC) has asked for the payment of salaries to the employees.
In a letter to the MD, the association has said that many of the employees who have not received their salaries from January 2015, be paid their salaries.
John Nazareth, General Secretary of GGEA in the letter said that the department had failed in the timely payment of salaries during the last two years. “It has also been informed that the salary for the month of December 2014 has been paid to the employees on 23rd March 2015 and the salary from January 2015 onwards is not paid till date. It is not understood how you expect the poor employees to survive and feed their families,” he said.
He also pointed to bank loan instalments and life insurance premiums not being paid for the month of December 2014. “Employees have to pay penal interest on loan instalments and their life insurance policies are about to lapse,” he added.
An official from the GMC speaking on request of anonymity acknowledged that employee’s salaries were delayed but added that they were waiting for the government’s finance and accounts departments to deliver the funds.
GGEA however said they would take the matter before the State Human Rights Commission if the pending salary issues were not sorted out in the next 15 days.
