NEW DELHI: Two important cases of Goa have been listed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, one is a batch of review petitions by the Goa government and mining firm Vedanta Limited for a review of the judgment of February 7, 2018, stopping all iron ore mining operations in the State and the other are two petitions for disqualification of 12 MLAs defecting to the ruling BJP during the course of the current term.

The review petitions will be taken up in chamber by a Bench of Justices Dr D Y Chandrachud and M R Shah in the post-lunch session, which has already examined them through circulation on January 21, while the disqualification cases are to come up before a Bench of Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian.
In view of the review petitions not disposed of on January 21, the Bench of Justices Chandrachud and Shah on February 3 deferred the hearing on petitions for resumption of the mining in Goa to February 24, indicating that the decision on the review petition would come shortly, may be in another three-four days.
The writ petitions listed before the CJI’s court are filed by Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar to disqualify 10 MLAs as also by Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar to disqualify his party’s two MLAs.
Both petitions are against the Goa Assembly Speaker for delay in decisions and most of the defectors holding ministerial posts. They were first listed on Monday but deferred to Wednesday.
