PANJIM: Forecasting heavy rains, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Altinho, Panjim, has issued orange alert in the State till Monday (June 26).
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places across the State from June 24 to 26. Rainfall activity is very likely to increase over North and South Goa districts during the next five days due to active monsoon conditions persisting over Goa,” the IMD stated.

According to the IMD, very heavy rainfall (115.5mm in 24 hours) is very likely at isolated places from June 24 to 26. Heavy rainfall (64.4mm in 24 hours) is very likely at a few places on June 25, 26 and 27. Heavy rainfall (64.4mm in 24 hours) is very likely at isolated places on June 28 over North and South Goa districts. Rains are likely to be accompanied by gusty winds gusting of speed up to 40 to 50 kmph off Goa and South Maharashtra coast.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture along and off Goa coast for next five days till June 28. The warnings are issued based on latest observations and numerical weather prediction model guidance, the IMD said.
The IMD recorded two inches of rainfall in the State during the last 24 hours while, the total rainfall recorded in the State was 10 inches. Due to heavy rains since Saturday, the total rainfall deficit was reduced from 72 per cent and 64 per cent.
Meanwhile, normal life was thrown out of gear due to rains. At Pilerne, a tree collapsed and fell on the house of one Anand Naik causing damages. The Pilerne fire personnel rushed to the site and cut the tree. At Ponda, water entered into the houses on account of choking of drains while, all eyes were on the capital city where citizens had expressed fears of flooding due to ‘shoddy’ Smart City works.
