PANJIM: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajvaradan Rathore said that by November 30, most transactions in Goa will be cashless.
After attending a meeting with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, top State and bank officials, Rathore said Goa is on the verge of becoming a model State.
“Entire country has to be taken towards cashless economy that is the aim of demonetisation. As much as possible we need to use less cash and more plastic money,” he said adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley have already spoken on this.
He said that cashless transaction or plastic money is very simple and secure too. “But people are reluctant as they have been using cash for decades,” he said.
He said there was meeting of the Goa government and banking sector on how to make Goa a model state by using plastic money. “This is the peak tourist season and a large number of tourists in the State, which I feel is the right time to introduce cashless transactions,” he said.
Rathore said that in the next few days banks will put up stalls in markets where there is more sale and educate people on how the apps could be downloaded and used.
“Plastic money can be used at liquor outlets, transportation department etc. Besides, we will be holding meetings with traders and contractors on how to make cashless payments to labourers and transporters,” he stated.
Rathore said that in the next three or four days these meetings will be held and by November 30, everything will be done.
