PANJIM: Goa experienced more rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on Sunday with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa Observatory once again urging the public to avoid moving in open spaces or taking shelter under trees or structures.
Goa has been put on Yellow Alert till November 18 as the State is ‘very likely’ to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
IMD Goa said the thunderstorm activities may affect crops during the rainfall period. The fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea till November 18.
IMD informed there are wind warnings near Maharashtra-Goa coast from November 16 and a fresh low pressure area is likely to form over east central Arabian Sea off this coast around November 17.
“Squally weather with wind reaching 40-50 km/hr, gusting to 60 km/hr is likely to prevail along and off South Maharashtra-Goa coast from November 16-18, 2021. Fishermen are advised not to venture along and off the coast during the above mentioned period,” it said.
Due to the heavy rains on Sunday evening, 110KV line to Kadamba SS was affected resulting in failure of power supply to Panjim and nearby areas. Many areas remained in dark for a considerable period of time while Internet connectivity was also disrupted.
Power Secretary Kunal said the electricity engineers and linesmen were on the ground to restore power supply soon.
