PANJIM: Goa Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the multi-crore mining scam, will take lessons on meticulous investigation from its Bangalore counterparts, who investigated the high-profile Bellary mining scam, before it was transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and later chargesheeted.
Police sources told Herald that a team comprising DySP, PI and PSI will leave for Bangalore on Tuesday on a ‘study-tour’.
“The illegal iron ore extraction and transportation cases are major cases requiring proper investigation. We don’t want to leave any gaps in our investigation,” said an officer desiring anonymity.
“In Bangalore, the team will take lessons such as investigation procedures, paper-works and even the smallest details the police officers had followed, to track down the exact details of the Bellary scam.”
The case, which was later handed over to CBI, Bangalore Unit was chargesheeted in the CBI special court after a comprehensive investigation against Gali Janardhan Reddy, Sreenivasa Reddy, VD Rajagopal and the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) under sections 120-B, 409, 420, 468,471 of the Indian Penal Code and under 13(2) and 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. OMC was owned by G Karunakara Reddy and G Janardhana Reddy who were ministers in the Karnataka government at the time.
The Goa SIT is reportedly already taken appointments from the concerned officers and is expected to undergo the training for around a week.
Meanwhile, a retired assistant geologist has been summoned in connection with one of the 10 mining-related scams, presently investigated by the SIT.
Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, suspended Mines & Geology Director Arvind Lolienkar, Kadnekar brothers are among eight persons who have been questioned so far.
