PANJIM: Ahead of the third Environment & Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) meeting under G20 Presidential tenure in Mumbai, Goa will participate in mega beach clean-up event on May 21. The beach clean-up drive will be held at Calangute in North and Colva in South Goa.
The event organised by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) and Goa State Climate Change Cell, to promote ‘Jan Bhagidari’, under the direction of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.. The event will be flagged off in the presence Minister Nilesh Cabral along with other dignitaries from the Indian Navy.
A selfie point competition on the theme ‘Reduce-Reuse-Recycle Plastics’ and a photography competition on the theme ‘Life on Beach – Need for Steps for Agreement to Action’ is also organised.
Meanwhile, State level celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity is organised at the village panchayat hall, Neura, Tiswadi on May 22. Padma Shri Rahibai Popere, popularly known as ‘Seed Mother’ will be the chief guest and keynote speaker.
Further, the nationwide launch of Peoples Biodiversity Register (PBR) updation-cum-verification programme will be held in Goa on May 23.
