Goa Tourism Department Unveils Festive Schedule for Carnival, Shigmo, and Shiv Jayanti Celebrations

Goa Tourism Department revealed the comprehensive schedule for the upcoming Carnival, Shigmo, and Shiv Jayanti celebrations in the state. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, emphasized that event organizers must adhere to any code of conduct that may be announced during the festivities.

The Tourism Department conducted a crucial meeting today with representatives from all municipal councils and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to streamline the preparations for the grand celebrations.

The Carnival float parades, a hallmark of Goa’s festive spirit, are set to captivate locals and tourists alike. The schedule is as follows:

Feb 9: Precursor event at Porvorim

Feb 10: Panaji

Feb 11: Margao

Feb 12: Vasco

Feb 13: Mapusa

The main Shiv Jayanti program, commemorating the 350th anniversary of the coronation of Shivaji Maharaj, is slated to take place at Bicholim on Feb 19. Leading up to the main event, Shiv Jayanti celebrations will be held from Feb 16 to Feb 19 at six different locations, including Panaji, Margao, Mapusa, Mormugao, Ponda, and Sakhali. The government has pledged a one-time grant of Rs 5 lakh to each Municipal Council to support the successful organization of these events.

Furthermore, Shigmo, a vibrant and culturally rich festival, is scheduled to be celebrated at 18 locations across Goa from March 26 to April 8. The float parades will kick off from Ponda on March 26, with main parades scheduled for Ponda, Mapusa, Panaji, Margao, and Vasco.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte urged the organizers to be prepared for any potential code of conduct that might be introduced during the celebration period, emphasizing the importance of compliance to ensure the safety and success of the events. As the state gears up for these festivities, locals and visitors alike eagerly anticipate the colorful and lively atmosphere that these celebrations bring to Goa’s cultural landscape.
