PANJIM: Goa Tourism has refused to change the dates of Shigmotsav, particularly the float parade scheduled on Thursday in Ponda amidst demands from local MGP MLA Lavoo Mamledar for postponement citing it clashes with the upcoming festivities.
Mamledar, a member of the Ponda Shigmotsav Samiti had reportedly demanded shifting the dates as the event coincides with Holi, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Chairman Nilesh Cabral said, “We can’t change the dates. Every four years, Shigmo coincides with the festivals being a leap year. The committees decide the dates as per the calendar year and it cannot be changed,” he said on Tuesday. The department has nonetheless considered changing the routes.
The Margao Shigmotsav Samiti demanded changing the route for its float parade which was also turned down.
