PANJIM: Three Carnival celebrating countries have come together offering cultural exchange programmes through a common project titled ‘Destination Carnival.’
Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has partnered with Liverpool, United Kingdom-based Brouhaha International and Arts Organisation and Cape Town Carnival, South Africa for participation. The project is funded by the European Commission’s Executive Agency.
“The three countries celebrate Carnival every year. This gives an opportunity to promote our culture, tradition, language and other aspects to different parts of the globe. While our troops will perform in Liverpool and Cape Town, their troops will also showcase their side here,” GTDC MD Nikhil Desai told Herald.
The project is also taken as a vector for youth development as, the GTDC officials said it it will explore, compare and contrast models of best practice in carnival arts engagement in the partner countries. “It will encourage gaining new competences and experiences of large-scale event management, engage young people in the delivery of large-scale cultural events and also provide opportunities for capacity building amongst the youngsters,” an official said.
Besides the Carnival participation, the year-long activities include non-formal working methods such as discussions, peer learning, and training sessions.
