On an official list released with regard to the awards, only one Goan has been enlisted. Having already been awarded the Sangeet Natak Academy award in 2005, Borkar was felicitated along with other awardees from fields such as public service, sports and entertainment.
Born in 1934 in Borim, Borkar is recognised for his service to the field of Indian classical music.
