PANJIM: North Goa District Collector on Friday notified Goddemal village in Sattari taluka as a containment zone for COVID-19, and the surrounding Kasarwada and Deulwada as buffer zones after the area reported nearly 15 positive cases.
This is the second containment zone notified in less than 15 days. The first was Mangor Hill which reported 217 cases till June 12. Mangor Hill had reported its first case on June 1.
An eight-member Rapid Response Team headed by the Deputy Collector of Sattari hass been constituted to investigate the outbreak and initiate control measures by assessing the situation.
A health worker, working at Vasco Public Health Center, and his family members were first tested positive in Goddemal, last week. All 15 cases are linked to Mangor Hill.
The North Goa Collector has order sealing of the containment zone while banning movement of people in or out of the area except for medical emergencies and for maintaining supply of essential goods and services.
The Health Department has been directed to ensure that sufficient number of teams comprising medical, ANM are put in place for door-to-door thermal screening in the containment zone and also health check of sick persons.
The department has also been asked to undertake contact tracing and ensure people follow proper home quarantine procedure. The process of swab testing began in the area two days ago.
The local panchayat has been directed to sanitise the entire containment zone. All frontline workers will be provided with the equipment for personal protection like PPE, N95 face mask, triple layered masks, gloves, hand sanitiser, liquid soap.
The Collector has directed the concerned departments to ensure supply of essential commodities along with uninterrupted supply of power, water and telecom services.
“Any violation shall invite criminal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and the Indian Penal Code, 1860,” the Collector said.
