The club plans to take pictures of people dumping garbage and hand over the same to the Goa State Pollution Control Board for action against the offenders. This activity of the club is self-funded.
The youth club began cleanliness drive on January 26, and as part of the same, they collected money and installed a camera in an area prone to garbage dumping. Incidentally, they come from a middle-class background and mostly make a living through small-time jobs and businesses.
This positive step by the small youth club has captured the attention of the society.
Ward 24 Councillor Raju Shirodkar has congratulated the youth and extended his support to them for tracking and prosecuting the offenders.
“Over 25 to 30 youth carried out a cleanliness drive on Republic Day and as a continuation to that activity, the camera has been fit. We will be monitoring the area through the camera and will submit visuals of the offenders to the GSPCB to initiate action against them,” said Adv Mayur Kudchadkar.
On the eve of Republic Day, the youth club had organised a drive to make their area plastic-free, which received a huge participation. The people who collected the most plastic waste were awarded a cash prize of Rs 3,000.
