Gold worth Rs 3.96 lakh burgled at Paroda

MARGAO: Unknown culprits broke into the Paroda Vividha Karyakari Sahakari Society Ltd last night and damaged the lockers in the locker room situated on the first floor. So far it has been confirmed that gold ornaments worth around Rs 3.96 lakh are stolen while other details are yet to be ascertained.
Yesterday there was some work being carried out at the society premises where CCTV cameras were being installed which were to be operational from today. However, this morning when the society was opened, it was noticed that someone had broken into the premises and the CCTV cameras were also not working.
Quepem Police Inspector Pravin Gawas revealed that unknown culprit entered the premises by damaging the window pane and thereafter interfered with the ventilator to the locker room. In the locker room 16 lockers were damaged while one was left intact and another damaged one was not allotted to anybody.
Of the 16 damaged lockers from one gold ornaments worth around Rs 3.96 lakh have been stolen while there was nothing in the other damaged lockers. Police are yet to ascertain the contents of the other 14 lockers. Meanwhile, police have interrogated the society staff and also those working to install the CCTV cameras and further investigations are on.
PI Gawas revealed that records are being sought from the Crime Branch and Central Jail Colvale to check the criminal history to close in on the culprit. Besides, police stations from the neighbouring states will also be contacted for further help, he said.
