PANJIM: Calangute Panch Savio Gonsalves has justified his decision to contest the polls to Calangute ZP constituency, claiming that many people had approached him to contest the ZP elections on their behalf.
Addressing a meeting, Gonsalves, a former deputy sarpanch, said that he was deeply concerned and pained to see the sorry plight of his constituency.
Some of the problems highlighted by Gonsalves included lack of regular water supply to around 60 per cent of the constituency, drug menace and prostitution, sewage and garbage problems, and bad infrastructure.
He was confident that his clean and sincere image would enable him to win the polls with a huge margin.
Commenting on his priorities for the constituency, Gonsalves said he plans to immediately undertake development projects like improving road connectivity, illuminating of streetlights, placing CCTV cameras at major junctions, etc.
