MARGAO: Beleaguered Margao Municipal Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello on Friday asked for two weeks time to reply to the show cause notice issued to him by the Chief Officer concerning the demolition of his two illegal structures at Mungul.
The MMC Chairperson made the submission for time to reply to the show cause notice when the mater came up for hearing on Friday. Hearing on the matter was adjourned in the absence of the Chief Officer Naveen S L.
The chief officer had on Thursday asked the municipal chairperson to show cause why action to demolish or seal his illegal structures should not be taken under provisions of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
Gonzaco finds himself in the dock as the chief officer in his show cause notice has pointed that the municipal inspection team has observed that the illegal structures belong Gonzaco Rebello, adding that the works were carried out without obtaining prior permission as required under the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
Complainant Savio Dias told the media that he would oppose granting of any time to the municipal chairperson to reply to the show cause notice since inspections carried out by the municipality and the SGPDA has revealed that the two structures are illegal.
