Gov, CM urged not to visit ship

Bharat Swabhiman Sanghatna (BSS) has urged state Governor and Chief Minister to desist themselves from visiting Portuguese ship NRP Sagres, which has touched Goan shore to mark 500 years of Portuguese arrival in Goa.
“It’s our request to the Governor S S Sidhu and CM Digambar Kamat not to be a part of the celebration, which marks Portuguese arrival in Goa. Their presence will once again make Portuguese to think that Indian’s are still their slaves,” BSS, Goa President Dr Suraj Kanekar told reporters today evening.
Kanekar said that inspite of official request to the Governor; there has been no firm response from them.
“Through a newspaper, we have come to know that CM will not be attending the function, scheduled on November 14,” he stated.
BSS demanded that the state government boycott the celebration. “Several freedom fighters had given their lives to free Goa from their colonial rule,” BSS member Kamlesh Bandekar said.
Earlier, the Goan freedom fighters too had objected to the government participation in the celebration and had threatened to protest. The Bhartiya Janata Party has also taken strong exception to the government official’s visit to the celebration.
