PANJIM: Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) on Wednesday said that the government neglected the education sector in the last five years.
BBSM also lashed out at Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for holding 20 departments, including some important ones, as a result of which the education sector has not been given priority.
Addressing the media, BBSM leader Uday Bhembre said, “Even a super hero from the heavens won’t be able to give justice to the administration demands of 20 departments. Education is not given priority in the State. Without proper health and education a person cannot develop. In the last five years the government has not given priority to the education sector and as a result no issues were resolved and on the contrary number of issues has risen.”
He added, “Government primary schools are shutting down as people are not happy. Govt HSS results have dropped by 12 percent from the previous year.”
Most of the government colleges don’t have a principal,” Bhembre said.
BBSM further said that if the government plays with the education sector, there can be two results – one being the HSS schools shall shut down in a similar way and colleges will also start shutting down and later the people will lose their trust in the government.
“All those studying in governments schools will remain backward because the quality of education is poor and this has happened in the last five years. Further the education sector needs to be given more time to progress,” he added
Another BBSM leader, Pandurang Naik, said that SCERT is not functioning and has only a single officer. “Government has taken more care about casinos and bar closure and has even started denotifying State highways but nothing is done to stop the closure of government schools,” Naik said.

BBSM to educate parents on mother tongue as MoI
BBSM has decided to educate parents of the importance of education in the mother tongue by conducting 65 camps across Goa.
Addressing the media, BBSM Convenor Subhash Velingkar said, “We will try to convince parents to educate their children in regional languages such as Konkani and Marathi and its importance.” He added, “The government should close down grants to English schools.” BBSM has also written to the Chief Minister demanding that assurances made by the government during Manohar Parrikar’s previous tenure be fulfilled. “One is closing grants to English medium primary schools in a phased manner. We have again submitted a nine point letter to the Chief Minister of the promises assured to us during the last five years tenure which were not fulfilled,” he said.
