MAYEM: The zonal agricultural department has started conducting survey of farms and plantations in Bicholim taluka, which had dried up due to stoppage of Tillari canal water.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar during his visit to Sal had assured the villagers to conduct survey of the affected farms to get the approximate estimate of the loss suffered by the farmers.
Accordingly, the ZAO officials have started the survey by visiting areas like Sal, Bicholim, Advalpal, Kel, Menkurem, Pirna, Latambarcem, Mulgao, Nanora and surrounding areas.
The officials during the survey found that plantations like banana, coconut, mangoes and chillies, onions, pineapple, jackfruit and many other types of vegetation have dried up. The survey will continue and the approximate loss suffered by the farmers will be arrived soon.
When contacted, Sal Sarpanch Ghanashyam Raut said WRD officials following Parrikar’s instruction plans to set up a permanent irrigation system in the State by using water from the Chapora River at Sal and other rivers in Goa to make the State self sustained in terms of irrigation to overcome problems which aroused some days ago after the Tillari canal water was stopped. “This will make our Goa independent,” added Raut.
