PANJIM: The State government has cleared Rs 500 crore to various contractors in what could be a New Year’s gift ahead of the celebrations.
“The government has paid Rs 500 crore bill to the contractors of PWD, Electricity and GSIDC under the RXL Bill Discounting System. The payment is for the period till March 2020,” Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant told reporters after chairing a high level meeting of the PWD engineers at his official residence, on Monday evening.
“More than 50 per cent have been given the payment,” he added. He claimed that Goa is the first State to use this system under RXL, which is a public sector undertaking.
The government has also taken a loan from Bank of Maharashtra for a repayment period of six months. On the issue of water scarcity, Sawant informed that the government has decided on a plan to give solution to the water woes of the Goans within the next fortnight.
“There is three MLD water shortage in many constituencies in Goa. The government has decided on plan to give solution on this in next 15 days,” he said.
He warned suspending inefficient engineers and those who don’t respond to the needs of the public. The Goa Board examinations as well as the colleges and university examinations will be held in offline mode, the Chief Minister said.
