While the State Government has been boasting about introducing e-governance in the State for the past years, in reality, it is much behind the race.
Just eleven departments of the government have been computerised so far, with necessary software for service delivery, the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat in his written reply to a starred question posed by Mayem MLA Anant Shet informed the House.
Delay has been caused as software cannot be made fully operational though it has been completed, due to lack of connectivity to the sub-offices and head offices. In some cases, training and back-end data entry work are in progress.
Computerisation has also been delayed because Business Process Re-Engineering has not been worked out yet that require necessary provisions and amendments to be made.
In some cases, software development is either in progress or yet to be commenced, says the reply. As a result, computerisation in 47 departments has been delayed. These include departments such as school education, town and country planning, finance, health, general administration and coordination, prosecution.
Apparently, reply does not disclose when the mammoth task of computerisation of balance 47 departments would be completed.
