VASCO: Minister for Revenue, Labour and Employment Rohan Khaunte on Thursday informed that the state government has initiated the process to study the reasons behind large scale employment of non-Goans in the big industries in Goa and why such jobs cannot be provided to the qualified Goans.
Speaking to reporters at a function at Verna, he said the study report will be with the Labour and Employment Department by December-end and by February-March skilled development officers will visit the big companies asking them to create skill development or training based on their requirements for Goan youth.
“There are several big industries which are operating at different industrial estates in Goa but opportunities for well-qualified Goans are still not coming in. We need to know the reasons behind the same and therefore we have assigned the task to our officers with the timeline to comeback with job requirements in all industries along with the detailed ratio of employment given to Goans and non-Goans out of their total employment. The study will focus mainly on the reasons behind placement of non-Goans in any job and why the Goan youth cannot be accommodated in the same job,” Khaunte said.
He said, “Once this study is completed then by February-March 2018 the Department of Labour and Employment will deploy skilled development officers who will visit these industries, ask them to have skill training for Goan youth for the jobs where they have employed non-Goans.
“Through CSR activity by these companies and with the support of the government, unemployed Goan youth will be provided skilled training and after the training period either these industries can absorb them or they (Goan youth) will be trained in such a manner that they can achieve or get better employment in industries. This will in turn help the state to overcome the issue of unemployment.” he added.
Meanwhile, Khaunte informed that like tourism, the state government intends to create Goa as another preferred IT destination so that big names from IT industries can set up their shops in the state.
