PANJIM: In an important decision, the State government has hiked daily wages of safai karmacharis (workers), involving in solid waste management, in various urban local bodies from Rs 500 per day to Rs 700 per day with effect from January 1.
The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant informed about government decision to increase the daily wage of safai karmacharis and drivers involved in Solid Waste Management in urban local bodies by Rs 200 per day and Rs 30 in group insurance scheme w.e.f. January 1, 2022.
“This is an essential step to enhance income of those working to keep our towns and cities clean,” he tweeted.
As per the order issued by Director Urban Development Gurudas Pilankar, all daily wage workers (safai karmacharis) and drivers involved in Solid Waste Management related work will be paid Rs 700 per day that is Rs 500 from the municipal funds and Rs 200 from the government grant.
Also, the group insurance scheme will also be extended to the workers and drivers wherein Rs 30 per month will be released by way of grants by the government.
