PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed the House that the State government is implementing the Development of Medicinal Plant Scheme through Goa State Medicinal Plant Board (GSMPB).
Replying to a question tabled by Leader of Opposition and Congress’ Quepem MLA Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavalekar, the Chief Minister said, “GSMPB has been implementing School Herbal Garden from year 2015-16, which is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme under National Medicinal Plants Board, New Delhi under Ministry of AYUSH to create awareness amongst school children regarding importance of Medicinal Plants. GSMPB is also promoting establishment of Medicinal Plant Nursery by Self Help Groups, NGOs etc. cultivation of medicinal plants such as Kokum, Pipali and Madhukari is also promoted for which 30 % assistance is provided to the cultivators by GSMPB,” Parrikar informed.
He said, “Unemployed youth can seek assistance for establishment of medicinal plants nursery and for cultivation of medicinal plants. GSMPB is in the process of linking interested companies with cultivation of medicinal plants, which are operating in Goa and use medicinal plants as raw materials for their products.”
