Govt insensitive to people’s feeling, alleges Sequeira

PANJIM: Taking strong objection to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar directing the repair of roads ahead of the BRICS summit, Calanagute acting sarpanch Joseph Sequeira stated that the BJP-led government is insensitive towards the people’s feelings.

During an inspection of preparedness for the BRICS summit, Parsekar had directed the authorities to complete the hot-mixing of road and remove encroachments on a war footing.
Recently, Sequeira had led a villagers’ protest against bad road conditions. “The State government is concerned about the world leaders but not of the people of Goa, who have been demanding repair of the roads,” Sequeira said.
He said locals, as well as tourists, have suffered due to bad road conditions, there even being a fatal accident, but the government did not move.
“Why did the government not consider the demands of locals? We are the taxpayers and not the foreign leaders,” he said.
adding, “This shows that the government is insensitive towards people.”
They are not worried of the sufferings of the people.”
On the removal of encroachments, he said, “Calangute had begun a demolition drive to remove illegal encroachments on the roadside but then chief minister Manohar Parrikar had intervened and stopped it. So, why this drive now?”
