PANJIM: The government on Monday launched the ambitious ‘Goa Yuva Samvad Yojana’ (Digit Youth Initiative Scheme), under which around 1.25 lakh youth between the age group of 16 and 30 years will get a monthly package of 100 minutes local talk time and 3GB internet data with a free SIM card. The government has tied up with Vodafone for the next three years.
Patting its back on being the first State to implement the scheme, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the initiative is another step to go cashless.
“We are working towards cashless economy by the month-end. This scheme is an attempt to carry out cashless transactions,” he said. He added, “Children can now take cashless (pocket) money from their parents. Educate parents on the technology.”
Panjim MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar warned against the misuse of the scheme while supporting a cashless economy.
