Govt neglecting Keri’s power, water issues: locals

VALPOI: Keri locals alleged the government was unconcerned over the lack of drinking water or electricity in the village for the last five days.

At a meeting in the panchayat hall on Thursday, they stated that government should be aware that clean water was a fundamental right.
Sattari Magistrate Dashrath Gawas convened the meeting, which was attended by around 300 locals and officials from the electricity department and PWD, among others. The locals blasted the water department for the irregular water supply, while the Assistant Engineer Dattaram Shet claimed the problem was not due to the PWD, but due to frequent power failures. The magistrate assured that he would arrange a mobile generator for the village, especially during the monsoons.
The locals were also dissatisfied with the electricity department over the frequent power failures, which were due to the department’s poor pre-monsoon works. The magistrate informed them that complaints in the future regarding any matter should be submitted in writing.
Meanwhile, Poriem MLA and Opposition Leader Pratapsingh Rane said that he would request the government to fix the power and water problems in Keri and his constituency.
A water treatment plant had been constructed two years ago to fulfill the needs of the locals, and it was commissioned last year. Although water from the Anjunem dam canal is supplied to the consumer after being treated at the plant, the locals complained that they were still getting dirty water.
