MARGAO: Opposition Leader and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Wednesday accused the State government of pushing Goa towards COVID destination.
“Where is the promise of testing within 24 hours? Reports are given in 13 days and testing is not done,” Kamat complained and demanded fixing the responsibility for the bad situation of the health sector and the battle against the pandemic.
He alleged that the tall claims on handling and managing the pandemic made by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane have fallen flat with the COVID Hospital in Margao turning into a danger zone with doctors, nurses and support staff testing positive for COVID with no alternative plan available with the Government to substitute the infected staff.
“The existing staff is under huge pressure and I am afraid that the entire machinery will collapse, if the government does not pay immediate attention to this serious issue. The government is pushing Goa towards COVID destination,” he alleged.
“The Government has miserably failed in handling and managing the pandemic in Goa. The lethargic approach of the government has resulted in spread of the virus, rise in number of patients and deaths,” Kamat charged.
“It is clear that the government did nothing during the 40-day nationwide lockdown with regards to creating testing facilities and quarantine facilities. Today, there is a huge backlog of almost 7,000 test reports pending,” he claimed.
“The Government has miserably failed in providing proper and hygienic quarantine facilities to the COVID patients. There are videos going viral of the pathetic condition at the designated COVID Hospital in Margao. The patients and relatives are complaining about mismanagement and ill treatment at the hospital,” he alleged.
“As the government has now passed the budget bulldozing the democratic values, I demand that the Chief Minister immediately announce the Economic Revival Plan for Goa. The Opposition will now be compelled to come on the streets with the people of Goa, if the government fails to bring the facts and figures before the public by releasing white paper on COVID and Financial status of Goa,” Digambar warned.
