Govt reduces budget for CMRY scheme

PANJIM: In what can indicate the lesser response to the Chief Minister’s flagship scheme providing self-employment, the State run Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has projected lesser sanction for the flagship scheme for the current financial year, compared to the last. 
As per the Performance Budget of Finance Department for the year 2019-20, the projected sanctioned amount for Chief Minister’s Rojgar Yojana (CMRY) has been reduced from Rs 28.57 crore for the financial year 2018-19 to Rs 26 crore during the ongoing fiscal.
“EDC continues to implement the self-employment loan scheme – CMRY – to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship among the youth in the State,” reads the performance budget tabled on the floor of the House.
The document listing the performance budget mentions that the corporation has conducted entrepreneurship training programmes for more than 240 CMRY beneficiaries from all over the State who have been financed under the scheme during the year 2018-19.
The budget document tabled by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant claims that the corporation (EDC) has also conducted and participated in camps and exhibitions organised by various agencies and institutions for promotion of self-employment schemes. 
“Over the years, 6,100 beneficiaries have availed benefits under the scheme,” it adds.
The information provided on the floor of the House reveals that the sanction of term loan for the industry by EDC has been increased from Rs 59.61 crore for the Fiscal 2018-19 to projected Rs 100 crore for the current financial year.
The sanction of term loan for government run corporations has also been enhanced from Rs 81 crore for the financial year 2018-19 to projected Rs 100 crore for the Fiscal 2019-20.
The performance budget document mentions that over the recent past the performance of the Corporation has been very good inspite of overall economic slowdown.
“EDC has reinvented its business model and broad based its activities to support the benefit of the State government and all other stakeholders,” it adds.
